The Holy Spirit’s Role in Christian Life

Print Friendly

Worship Sundays . . . because God is beautiful. With incomparable glory and goodness, he steals our breath and fills us with awestruck wonder. He is more than worthy of our adoration and praise.

“Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.” 2 Corinthians 1:21-22

Oh God, I marvel at the mystery of you. Your ability to be three persons in one – God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit is certainly a mystery.

Holy Spirit you are often overlooked and misunderstood. You hovered over the waters as the earth was birthed. You are precious. You are personal. You were key to my salvation.

When I trusted Jesus, you placed me in God’s family. You affirm to me that I am God’s true child. As God’s true child, I’m now an heir. My inheritance can’t be taken away.

I acknowledge your presence equipping me to serve, empowering me to resist ungodly behavior, and to live in a way that makes God smile. You give me everything I need for life, godliness, and the ability to tame my rebellious heart. You have given me a new heart altogether.

In the middle of this messy life, you make me new and refresh my soul every single day. Regardless of my ugly past, you have brought me from death to life and infused me with real living, breathing hope.

With you, God is able to do immeasurably more in my life . . . in me. You are God with me – the breath of God empowering, guiding, convicting, teaching, comforting, and loving me. In you I encounter the fullness of God’s love.

You give me an ever-increasing understanding of God’s heart. You open my heart and mind revealing scripture’s deep meaning. Like a treasure box opened. My mind grasping dazzling gems of truth.

Because of you, I am able to experience the indescribable joy of the most intimate fellowship with our holy and perfect God. Not just fellowship. Oneness. Oneness with the Almighty. You’ve allowed me to taste the goodness of the Lord. In you I am completely, deliriously satisfied in God’s presence.

Your presence is comforting. It’s proof I am safe and secure in this family. You are the guarantee God will never let me go. You are a tiny piece of heaven in my life and God’s down payment of the more that is yet to come – my inheritance in heaven.

Until then, God shields me and keeps me strong in my faith through you until the day of redemption when my imperfect, broken body will be exchanged for an eternal and perfect body. Yes! You give me overwhelming hope for what is to come in the future. You are the power strengthening me within.

How can I ever demonstrate the depth of my gratitude except to say, “As a traveler in a dry and weary land where there is no water, I hunger and thirst for more of you.” Awaken my soul. Refresh me with your presence. Fill me to overflowing. Less of me. More of you, precious Spirit of God.

In Jesus name I pray,

Amen
