Is Anything Too Difficult for the Lord?

Print Friendly

What challenges are staring at you today? How big are the boulders of difficulty in your path? Have you lost hope? Are you feeling discouraged, exhausted, weary?

When Abraham’s wife Sarah was struggling with infertility, God shared some unbelievable news with her husband. He told Abraham that they would have a son within a year. Sarah laughed because she and Abraham were old and way past child-bearing years. Hear what God said.

“Is anything too difficult for the Lord?”

God is supremely powerful (omnipotent) and able to do anything He wants to do that is consistent with His nature. That includes changing ridiculous and hopeless situations.

Sarah and Abraham had a baby boy one year later!

“Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.” Jeremiah 32:17

Now this doesn’t mean that God’s just going to wipe away every problem that rears its ugly head in our lives. I can certainly tell you that my husband and I have experienced some tremendous hardship in recent years as a result of the choices others have made. God didn’t stop or change what was happening. He didn’t rescue us from any of those situations. There were times when I questioned him, couldn’t worship, was angry with him, and can remember praying fervently – begging him to restore my heart. And I had sincere doubts that my heart would ever recover completely.

Although God didn’t change our situation, he changed something far more important. He changed my heart as He walked faithfully with me through that time and brought complete and total healing.

The secret is to surrender to him and pursue his healing because he is able to bring it. The world may fall apart, but ultimately we won’t when we rely on his power.

“To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One. “Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry hosts one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.” Isaiah 40:25-26

So when the baby’s colicky, the bills exceed our income, the health issue creeps in to overtake us, the spouse betrays us, the ex-husband is being difficult, the teen has lost his way, and the nations are unstable . . . remember that we have a great God who is mighty and powerful. He created the heavens and the earth with just a word. He brought the dead (Jesus, Lazarus, the widow of Nain’s son, Jairus’ daughter . . .) back to life. Yet some of the greatest demonstrations of his power are in the quiet places of the human heart as he brings peace, patience, strength, healing, character, fortitude, and forgiveness. That power lives in you if you have put your faith in God’s Son, Jesus Christ.  All you need to do is tap into it – and rely on Him. If you don’t have a relationship with Jesus and want that kind of power in your life, see my page “Knowing Jesus”.

Is anything too difficult for the Lord? How has God demonstrated his power in your life?
