For Those Who Need to Know They Can

Print Friendly

Today I’m sending some encouragement your way. Thought you might be able to use a little of that today!

First – something to make you smile.

Last week I drove into the school parking lot to drop my son off. We pulled up next to a diminutive little vehicle. Made me laugh out loud!

Encouragement

It’s called a Vango. The owner taped two pictures in the back window. One was a picture of the artist Vincent van Gogh. The other a sign stating, “I think I can. I think I can. I think I can.”

Encouragement

Do you remember that story from childhood, “The Little Engine That Could”? That’s where this famous line comes from.

I think I can.

I think I can.

I think I can.

There have definitely been times in my life when I felt like that little Vango. The enormity of life’s challenges raging all around me made me feel small . . . very, very small. Sometimes it was just the demands of everyday life or the weariness of mommyhood that did me in.

When problems crash down on us, why do we have a tendency to focus on our problems instead of on God? We’re naturally inclined to do the exact opposite of what we’re meant to do . . . keep our eyes square on Him.

Satan wants us to feel small. He wants us to take our eyes off God. He wants us to crumble into hopelessness and despair.

He doesn’t want us to know the truth that:

God came to LIFT us out of the darkness.

“For he has RESCUED us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves . . .” Colossians 1:13

He is more POWERFUL than any grueling situation we face.

“Oh Lord, God of our fathers, are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. POWER and MIGHT are in your hand, and no one can withstand you.” 2 Chronicles 20:6

When you cannot conceive of any possible way to overcome a particular problem in your life, remember little Vango:

If you have a relationship with Jesus, our great God is not just with you . . . he is in you. (John 17:26)

” . . . the One who is in you is GREATER than the one who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4

God STRENGTHENS those whose hearts are fully committed to him. 2 Chronicles 16:9

You can do everything through Him who gives you STRENGTHPhilippians 4:13

Your weaknesses don’t offend him. He rolls out his GRACE and infuses you with his POWER so you are able to bear the burdens in your life. His power in your time of weakness puts the spotlight on his greatness. 2 Corinthians 12:9

“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of POWER, of love and of self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7

PRAISE be to the Lord, for he has heard my cry for mercy. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped.” Psalm 28:6-7

So take heart precious “Vango.” Persevere! With Christ in you, you can say with confidence:

I know I can!

I know I can!

I know I can!

“Now to him who is able to do IMMEASURABLY MORE than all we ask or imagine, according to his POWER that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21

Thanks for the encouragement sweet cousin of mine. I love all the beautiful fall colors and the crisp, clean air, but alas, it’s one of the most difficult times of the year for me health wise. I strive to keep my eyes on Him, but steroids and the like make it difficult to manage my moods. Knowing that Godly people such as yourself are praying when I am not as able, lightens the burden. You are loved!
