Joplin tornado

Hi friend! Next week I’ll be heading to Oklahoma with a group from our church to help our fellow human beings on this planet clean up the devastation from the tornado.

We’ll arrive Friday evening (May 31st) so we’re ready to go first thing Saturday morning. We’ll work all day Saturday and most of the day Sunday, then head for home late Sunday afternoon.

Eagle Heights Baptist Church has generously opened their doors to us for lodging. Love how the body of Christ works!

Some items to bring with you:

• Work gloves
• Tough work shoes
• Hat
• Sunscreen
• Bottled water
• Gatorade (essential)
• Money for meals
• Snacks for the work site
• A small pack to carry sunscreen, snacks, and stuff in.
• Antibacterial hand wipes
• First-aid kit
• Shovel
• Rakes
• Wheelbarrow with tires that don’t puncture (if you have one and can fit it in your car)
• Crowbar
• Chainsaw
• Towels/Toiletries
• Bedding (we’ll be sleeping on cots)
• The extravagant love of Christ
• Joy in your heart for the privilege of getting to serve in this way
• Willingness to be covered in dirt and sweat
• A readiness to be bone weary
• An openness to having your heart touched and your life changed

Make sure your tetanus shot is up to date as well.

“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.  If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3:16-18
