Embracing God’s “Immeasurably More” in 2014

It’s a crisp new year. The days are blank and unwritten – waiting to be filled.

As you move into the days of the new year, how about opening yourself to God’s “immeasurably more” and letting him write a new chapter in your life?”

Eight years ago, our family was living a very happy life in Kansas City, Missouri in a home on a lake, lots of fun play days on the dock directly behind our house, all three kids still growing up in our home, surrounded by a wonderful community of tried-and-true friends, in a not-too-big city that held plenty of culture and the variety of activities/conveniences only a city can offer,

Like the needle of a turntable suddenly getting bumped off the vinyl record – the music of that song changed. God uprooted us from our super comfortable, lovely lives in Kansas City and moved us to a small town. Actually he didn’t uproot us. We uprooted ourselves when we realized he wanted us to make a change.

Many friends didn’t understand. Some said, “I hope you find what you’re looking for.” They missed the focal point of our lives.

We weren’t looking for anything.  Instead, we were following our God – our Immeasurably More – who led us into a new adventure.

We’re a family who trusts God wholeheartedly, and believes his plans are more important than our own. Sometimes challenging . . . sometimes exhilarating, life with him is an adventure. HE is our Immeasurably More.

The week before the moving truck showed up in our driveway to haul our family and our memories to the unknown future in that small town, I prayed a simple prayer.

Through the years I had met people who felt a strong pull to work in ministry but didn’t know how to pursue it. I wanted them to be able to experience the same joy I had known working in ministry at a local church. In my prayer, I asked God if there was a ministry my husband and I could start that would allow our friends to realize their dreams.

Before that question was completely out of my mind, the floodgates opened sweeping me away in a rush of ideas. Grabbing a pen and paper, I wrote them down as quickly as they poured out. 

After we moved into our new home, I typed up those ideas and stored them on my computer – for almost six years. The idea was massive. We didn’t know what to do with it.

In 2012, my husband and I followed our Immeasurably More to attend a Biblical Institute that’s traditionally designed for recent college graduates. After graduation, those ideas nestled inside the computer began swimming to the surface again.

For the past year and a half, we’ve been doing our due diligence regarding this ministry project whose ultimate aim is to:

“Build families that last”

Each day has required embracing a steep learning curve as we’ve established a not-for-profit, website, a giving page, a concept development plan, and a business plan. 

As we dance around inside God’s dream, we hold it loosely. It belongs to him. He will do with it as he pleases. 

However . . . God embedded a scripture in our hearts this past year that we’ve been holding close. Ephesians 3:20 talks about our God of


God isn’t just our Immeasurably More. He is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine according to his power that is at work within us.

He is constantly at work in each of his followers shaping and refining us in a way that glorifies him. The people we become under his creative spirit is definitely immeasurably more than we could ever imagine.

The change in us is meant to work its way out into the world. God intends for us to live productive lives, and devote ourselves to doing what is good – all as we live by his power for his purposes.

In each moment, God gives us the “immeasurably more” of his heart in us, his power at work through us and others, his dream birthed in us, his provision for each day, and security in his embrace as we step out into the new territory of

This ministry is definitely for his purposes and his glory.

More than anything else, we’d love for you to experience the fullness of life that comes from abandoning yourself to God’s “immeasurably more” – his heart and his power at work in your life.

Maybe it’s time to fill your calendar pursuing that dream God has planted in your heart, to step out of the boat, to walk on the water, to take that class, to apologize to the person you offended, to lead that Bible study or ministry, to take that new job, to go on that mission trip, to marry the girl. Trust our God who IS Immeasurably More.
